The authors Achilles heel

Those of you who knows this blog a little bit will know that the authors Achilles heel comes in the shape of a cat or cats :-)

Being on a Greek island I'm surrounded by gorgeous cats (and more about that some other time), but one day I just got so struck by their features and just how perfect they seem... so clean, so neat, so sensitive, so beautiful, so keen, so astute and SO their own. Who wouldn't melt away in an AWWW at this little face as an example. Anyway, got so carried away that I turned to my husband with a big smile and said that I felt sure God must have created the cat as a gift to himself, LOL! Just as the frosting on an otherwise perfect day of many creations.

They really make me happy!!

A choice we shouldn't have to make

Here's an amendment to yesterdays post prompted by Kat's comment. Something I was going to mention but seems I got too carried away by my own thoughts to remember...

I'm aware that not all people have the "luxury" of being able to afford free range eggs. I put the word "luxury" in exclamation marks because it seems so fundamentally wrong that people should have to choose between caged chicken eggs and free range eggs. The human mind has conjured up many genius inventions but I think it was a sad day the day someone came up with the probably seemingly brilliant idea of industrializing egg laying production. It's a drop in the ocean of a gazilllion issues, but isn't it fundamentally wrong that humans sometimes are forced to choose against their will because we live in a mass producing culture seeking to make things cheap?

Can you imagine the delight of walking into a small Greek island supermarket and finding a bucket full of fresh eggs from a nearby household. Thank God there's still places to find an egg au naturale with the odd little feather sticking to the egg.

A happy piece of birthday cake

Okay, so you're probably wondering the relevance of a piece of birthday cake on Gods Little People! Well, I can reveal that it's all about the yellow color inside the cake.

A friend of mine sent me the photo and mentioned how yellow the inside of this birthday cake had turned out because it was made with eggs from happy free range chickens. If you buy eggs from caged chickens in my mother country (Denmark), it's likely they will come from a chicken farm with a permission of 16 caged chicken per square metre!!! (God forbid) whereas if you buy free range eggs the limit is 25 chickens per 100 square metres. Doesn't it make you crazy?? I mean the chickens doesn't get to decide which life they're born into. Some are "lucky" some are not. To think humans use their power over animals like that... to breed a chicken into a life with 15 other "inmates" just to produce for humans. It's a hugely distressing concept.

So yes, I felt deligthed at the sight of this happy piece of birthday cake. I'm sure it tasted delicious.

A new reality

So I'm beginning to get used to falling asleep to the lulling sound of sheep bells on  a nearby mountainside, the sound of the sea and the sound of the rooster at 5:30 am. Yes, it's very  tranquil and calming on the soul but it does come at a cost. No internet access! The place is so rural that you have to travel to the next bay to get a signal. Or to get a whopper of a satellite receiver. Might end up with the latter as I've got several posts up my sleeve just waiting for a sustained signal.

Miss catching up with you all and to write about all the little people I'm surrounded by.

Hopefully it won't be long now. In the meantime... meet my new neighbour. I'm sure it was wondering who that strange creature was on the other side of the fence!
